What To Do If You’re Faced with a Football Related Offence

Football fans

Although football is branded ‘the beautiful game’, unfortunately, there is also a darker side to the sport which can land you in dangerous situations. With tensions high and fans wanting their team to so desperately win, emotions can sometimes take centre stage. There are a number of things that fall under the umbrella of a football-related offence, such as; disorderly behaviour, violence, racist abuse and possession of alcohol or drugs within the ground. Passion is what makes the game so great, but instances like these are not taken kindly by the law.

Here’s Lefevre Litigation’s guide on football-related offences and what you should do if faced with one.

Find a Lawyer

If you believe that you’ve been wrongly convicted, then you are in your rights to seek legal advice to help fight your case. Not only can public disorder result in a ban from football, but it could also lead to a prison sentence. If you have been arrested as a result of an offence, then it’s important that you have the opportunity to receive legal advice. At Lefevre Litigation, we can provide leading legal advice to help you build the best case to evidence that you have been wrongly convicted. Our expert in football crimes has an understanding of these situations and what to do about them.

Apply Again

If you have been found guilty and you’re currently serving your sentence, then you can apply to the court after two-thirds of the sentence has been completed. Once you have submitted your application, the court will then arrive at a decision by assessing your conduct since the ban was placed, the nature of the offence and any other relevant factors. If you are successful, then the ban will be removed early and you’ll be able to attend football matches once again.

Take Time Out

If you have been given a ban for a football-related offence and you accept that you were in the wrong, then it is perhaps best for you to take some time out from football. Every football fan gets passionate and without the highs and lows, football just wouldn’t be the same. But, there is a line of what acceptable behaviour looks like. If you are serving a football ban, then it might be best to reflect on the situation and how you can set an example for other fans in the future.
