How to Avoid Football Related Incidents

Football supporters

If you’re a loyal football follower then going to matches can be the highlight of your week. However, while the majority of fans are there to support their team and enjoy the game with family and friends, emotions do run high and football-related incidents can happen. Unfortunately, if you find yourself in the middle of a serious incident this could result in jail time and a criminal record.

Here are three ways to avoid football-related incidents.

Move away from heightened situations

Whether you’re watching the football in the pub, at the ground or elsewhere, always stay away from heightened situations. As the game progresses people may become more aggressive or aggravated which often leads to trouble. If you notice a change in the atmosphere keep alert and don’t get involved. Hanging around when tensions are high could result in you getting involved in situations that may have been avoided if you left at the right time.

Control your alcohol intake

There’s nothing wrong with enjoying a few drinks as you watch the football but you don't want to lose control. Alcohol mixed with football is often the main cause of arguments and fights. While you may never get into fights usually when you drink too much your behaviour changes and encourages you to do things that are out of the ordinary.

Be cautious in new places

Football is all about loyalty and sporting your team, so when you come into contact with supporters from opposing teams things can get heated. If you’re travelling to away games you need to stay alert and keep out of trouble. Avoid making provoking comments and stay calm if anything is directed towards you. It’s not worth making life-changing decisions because of a few words.
